TEAM and GENERAL UPDATE: SNAC Promo and Work in the Pipeline!
Making SNAC accessible includes creating digestible media to describe what it is and how it works. Creating a video doing just that was a priority for the team so that we could smoothly transition from the IMLS grant (which at present has still been rescinded, but we have submitted an appeal letter!), which largely focused on outreach efforts for the final stage, to the Mellon grant, which will serve as a basis for creating and fueling partnerships and work.
We envision these pieces as working in tandem. It would be hard to INDIGENIZE SNAC if we do not have material to start from. It would also be hard to promote SNAC and the various jobs and opportunities that the Mellon grant would bring without concise, clear promotional material.
Fortunately, just before we announce job openings and have laid the groundwork for some SNAC events and hopeful partnerships with institutions, organizations and Tribes, we completed this video that now lives on YouTube, the SNAC website, and now, here!
We encourage our various working group members to utilize this video when corresponding with new individuals who may not have heard of SNAC, or embedding this video in platforms where you’ve written about SNAC but did not have media to include at the time.
Of course there are other implications for this type of work, and we are now hoping to create some other short content that may be used for general archival education or asynchronous SNACSchool material.
Other work is also in the pipeline, as we continue to let the dust settle on restructuring the various SNAC Working Groups. The working groups are extremely important in the cooperative model of SNAC and making decisions about priorities and creating task groups to work on projects! We are still looking for new members to the various groups, and those who would be interested in possibly serving as Chair!
SNACSchool dates are also in the pipeline, with a Train the Trainer session slated for May 27, 2025! Individuals who’ve completed the Create and Edit modules can participate in the “A to Z” session for all phases of planning and executing SNAC!
Focus groups and coding of all the focus group transcripts continues as we are committed to this research and applications of such, especially today. We hope to provide additional updates on this and other work in future conferences, seminars, webinars, workshops, and more!
