TEAM UPDATE: SNACSchool Soft (Re)Launch!

One of the key components of the SNAC Cooperative is SNACSchool! Members of the Cooperative have designed modules to teach SNAC users how to use the platform in a variety of ways.

With support from the National Archives and Records Administration, SNACSchool was able to carry out several training sessions per year up until about September 2024. Since then, it has taken a bit of a hiatus, but we were able to run sessions on March 5 and 6! Attendees, including members of our IndigenizeSNAC Team, Indigenous Advisory Board members, and the Indigenous Description Group (IDG) members, learned about the fundamentals of creating and editing SNAC records which will be a valuable skill moving forward.

We were also able to record the sessions and are in the process of crudely editing them for the purpose of developing an asynchronous training program. We hope to have more details on that soon, but in the meantime, the recordings will be hosted on a planned “Training Corner” page on this website for reference for those who have taken SNACSchool before!

Unfortunately, for the time being, those wanting to follow along and edit in the learning platform will not be able to do so at the moment, but you can still watch and learn if you like. We hope to hammer out some details and logistics for both accessing and editing SNAC dev sandbox and accessing the recordings in order to offer it to our virtual friends and friends-to-be in the coming weeks!

We also developed a survey for attendees to assess SNACSchool events and allow us to evaluate the program for successes and room for growth. These will become exceptionally important when we start to develop and launch Tribal/First Nations partnerships and Indigenous content for SNACSchool programming.

This post will be updated with links to videos and important notes about SNACSchool as things progress, so be sure to check back!
