What is SNAC?

Introduction, 2 minutes

This introductory 2-minute video provides a brief overview of what SNAC is and how visitors to the site can use it for research. For Indigenous users, this tool could be helpful with providing an access point to far-away collections and finding relevant archival records that have been displaced.

Archives 101

10-part Series, about 25 minutes total/up to about 2 minutes each

Our Archives 101 series is an “FAQ-style” rapid fire series to demystify some of our jargon archival concepts that may not be common knowledge. The link below is helpful to keep on hand during your SNACSchool adventure in case you have any questions, but we always encourage questions during live SNACSchool sessions as well!

SNACSchool

7-part series, ~6 hours total/individual length varies

This 7-part video series goes through all of the modules of our SNACSchool program for those who want to learn to create and edit SNAC records. For beginners or for those who are attending SNACSchool asynchronously, all 7 modules are helpful in providing information and context needed for editing SNAC records. Modules 3-5 focus on creation and editing of SNAC entities. If you click on the “Watch on YouTube” button at the bottom left of the preview screen, you can open the playlist in YouTube and select individual videos for a refresher!

OpenRefine SNAC Demo

Workshop demo, about 1 hour

This recording was taken on November 10, 2025 as part of a series of workshops to learn about using OpenRefine to clean and organize large datasets for ingesting into SNAC. The workshop was led by SNAC’s Technical Infrastructure Working Group Chair, Maristella Feustle. The first event in the series was a OpenRefine 101 demo using Library Carpentry’s “Introduction to OpenRefine” lesson and dateset.
